Magical Mistakes
My Opinion
I think the biggest tragedy of all was the fact that Scholastic changed the title of the first book and changed some of the text in this series. Were Roald Dahl's books changed? No. Were the Brian Jacques' Redwall series changed? No. Shakespeare? Any other British novels? I think not.
Why in the world did they take the idioms and cultural aspects out of this terrific series? To enjoy another culture and pronunciations of the English language is delicious! It adds flavour to the story -- and they took it out of the American publications. :(
The Canadian publisher, Raincoast, didn't alter the original versions.

Book 3
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
pg 263, Snape tells Harry, Ron, Hermione, Lupin, and Black that he knew they were there because, he saw "them running along this passage and out of sight" on the Marauder's map. Later, Harry and Hermione go back 3 hours in time. Wouldn't Snape have seen Harry and Hermione in two places on the map? This is a paradox. A mistake in HARRY
POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE occurred when it was released in July 2000.
The mistake appears in a passage late in the book (page 579 FIRST British
version; page 667 FIRST American version), during Harry's dramatic encounter

which PRINTING you have....it may be right or it may be wrong.
